Last year at CES Ars tried a demo by a company called 3DV that was essentially a webcam that used infrared technology to detect both motion and depth and reportedly worked extremely well.

Rumor has it that Microsoft bought them, and other recent rumors speculate that Microsoft is going to announce a peripheral at E3 this year that lets players control games with only their bodies. Coincidence? Maybe, but it’s interesting stuff either way.
