Jonathan Blow: What We All Missed About Braid

I posted some thoughts I had on excellent XBLA time traveling puzzle game Braid over on very nerdy after my first play through, but I declined to really get into my somewhat conflicted thoughts on the story.

I just read this extremely insightful interview with Braid designer Jonathan Blow at the Onion A.V. Club, and it gave me a new perspective on Braid’s story. If you’ve already played Braid and you are looking for some further reading, this interview is the place to go. If you haven’t played Braid, you should. You know, assuming you like playing games.

Particulary fascinating to me was Blow’s discussion of philosophy and art vs. science, and how he tried to express complicated scientific principles through game design. It’s a good read, and few (if any) other videogames and/or their designers inspire this kind of deep discussion.
