Infovore » Playing Together: What Games Can Learn from Social Software
I’ve been reading Ralph Koster’s Theory of Fun for Game Design and these presentation notes quote him and rely on his ideas a good bit, but I still think there were some interesting ideas in there about how games could benefit from social stuff happening on the web right now.

Oh, and aside from being a “not very scientific” opinion poll, Microsoft and Rock the Vote also managed to distribute 55,000 voter registration forms. Awesome!

FactCheck.org: The Party’s Over
This should be required post convention viewing.
Notice that while both parties numbers are off, the Republicans are way off.
Obama’s tax-cut/corporate loop hole closing plan = off by 50 billion.
Biden’s claim that McCain would leave 100 million people without tax cuts = off by 34 million
Huckabee’s claim that Palin got more votes than...

Thoughts on Aether
I really liked this game. It’s a short little flash game where you pilot some sort of creature by using it’s tongue to swinging from clouds and asteroids to several different planets where you have to solve a puzzle that makes each planet happy. Or something like that. It has cute but sort of creepy art by Edmund McMillen who also also lent his style to the game Gish. The art is quite...

I wish I could tell everyone to read this article, but it’s pretty...

Spore Prototypes
Wow, this is awesome. I knew that most studios making big games go through a ton of gameplay prototypes to try things out and see what does and doesn’t work, but to my knowledge no one has ever released them to the public. I’m going to have to remember to download and play around with some of these later (when I’m not at work!).

Google Chrome, Google’s Browser Project
Google is launching an open source web browser, eh? I didn’t see that coming. I don’t foresee it seriously competing with Firefox, but since google seems to have a few interesting ideas in their new broswer and they are both open source, maybe we’ll see some interesting cross pollination.

Jonathan Blow: What We All Missed About Braid
I posted some thoughts I had on excellent XBLA time traveling puzzle game Braid over on very nerdy after my first play through, but I declined to really get into my somewhat conflicted thoughts on the story.
I just read this extremely insightful interview with Braid designer Jonathan Blow at the Onion A.V. Club, and it gave me a new perspective on Braid’s story. If you’ve already...
